Society of Protozoologists records, 1947-1994

The collection contains a number of files collected by officers of the society pertaining to the early history of the organization, including its constitution and by-laws. Executive Committee files contain a large amount of correspondence between President, Secretary and Treasurer with individual members, heads of foreign sections, editors at Allen press, the American Institute of Biological Science and others. Included in many of the correspondence files are committee reports and other related materials. Financial records contain audit reports, bank statements, reconciliation reports and invoices. There are Business and Executive Committee meeting files for the years 1953-1990, however minutes are not available for every meeting. The collection also contains educational publications, pamphlets, and newsletters. Bound editions of the Journal of Protozoology, renamed The Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology in 1993, are available for the years 1954-1994.

Founded December 19, 1947 by a group of biologists then attending a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Chicago; the first formal meeting of the new society was held in 1949 in conjunction with the AAAS meeting in New York. In 1951 the Journal and Editorial Committees were established and in 1954 The Journal of Protozoology made its debut and in 1993 the journal changed its name to Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology.
